When I was a kid, I loved Metallica.

What wasn’t to love? They gave me fuel, gave me fire, gave me all that I desire.

I bought their tapes, I wore their shirts, I banged my head.

That’s why, I took the first and last line of every song from the first five Metallica albums and rearranged them into a story.

Spolier alert: It’s some bleak sh*t.

Albums include: Kill ‘Em All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, And Justice For All and Metallica (black album). See if you recognize which lines are from which songs.

Here goes…

My mother was a witch, she was burned alive. Blackened. Guilty as charged. No mercy for what we are doing. Am I evil? I am man, yeah. Life is for my own to live my own way.

No remorse.

Hey! My friend of misery. For whom the bell tolls. Sound is ripping through your ears. You’re thrashing all around acting like a maniac.

Battery. Pulled for you. You just stood there screaming. Left me with life in hell. Welcome to where time stands still. Down in the depths of my fiery home.

In madness you dwell. Living and dying, laughing and crying. Living out this hell you always knew. Sad but true.

Hit the lights. Do you see what I see? It is going to take your breath away. Halls of justice painted green. Messenger of fear in sight.

Thunder and lightning the gods take revenge. Dealing out the agony within. Lashing out the action, returning the reaction. Damage incorporated.

Follow the god that failed. Back to the front.

Back to the meaning of wolf and man.

Fall to your knees and bow to the phantom lord. Make his fight on the hill in the early day.

Harvester of sorrow. Suspicion is your name. You know not. Liberty or death, what we so proudly hail. Pride you took. So come on, jump in the fire.

We are scanning the scene in the city tonight. Reaching out for something you’ve got to feel. Late at night all system’s go. Seems the only way for reaching out again.

Off through the day’s mist I run. Off to never never land. Wherever I may roam. Bodies fill the fields I see, hungry heroes end. New blood joins this earth. All that is, was and will be.

Metal militia. Hear them calling me. No life till leather. No more!

Master! Don’t tread on me. Let us have peace, let us have life. Or choose your fate and die.

Nothing else matters.

My life suffocates. I’m trapped under the ice. By the last breath of the four winds blow.

I’m creeping death. Death greets me warm, now I will just say goodbye.

Dear mother. Feel no pain but my life ain’t easy. I can’t remember anything. I don’t know how to live through this hell. I can feel the flames. So real. So close no matter how far.

Blackened is the end.

Say your prayers little one. Spineless from the start, sucked into the part.

Never hunger.

When a man lies he murders some part of the world. Can we survive the blitzkrieg?

If it’s done just how I say. We all shall die.

Life it seems will fade away. End of passion play, crumbling away.

Slaves. Struggle within the struggling within.

Do unto others as they have done unto you.

Seek and destroy.

Cannot the kingdom of salvation take me home?

So I dub thee unforgiven. And the road becomes my bride.

Is that enough angst?

Sure, it reads like bad teenage poetry, but those five Metallica albums helped shape my tweenage years. My innocent world view was given a fiery, leather-clad purpose. That purpose was to bang, and bang hard.

What were your favourite Metallica moments? Let us know!

Sorry, (gotta remember my Hetfield)… Let us know-ah!
