The Fundamentals of Screenwriting Masterclass

June 23, 2018 @ 1:00 PM - June 24, 2018 @ 5:00 PM

The 4-day intensive takes place over two weekends, 4 hours each day and the registration fee includes a reference handbook with all of the information covered in class.

The course is fun, intense, thorough and covers everything you need to know about the nebulous art (and science) of how to write movies. Novelists, playwrights, game designers and emerging screenwriters have all taken classes with Sighthound (some multiple times), and everyone comes away with something valuable, so if you’ve ever wanted a leg up on your dream of becoming a screenwriter, or simply how to tell better stories, here is your chance!

The Foundations of Screenwriting course will familiarize students with the building blocks of storytelling that have been used successfully for thousands of years, plus many useful tips and tricks shared by working professionals, and just as importantly, how to make the process as fun and easy as possible.

Students will learn how to build from the centre out starting with a carefully crafted central premise. They will be shown how to choose the right genre and themes, create a cast of characters that suit your story, proper structure, scene construction, dialogue, effective editing strategies and even the value in “pitching” your screenplay.

This course is suitable for anyone of any skill or experience level and is designed to help anyone learn the rules, tools and concepts required to craft a marketable, industry-standard screenplay.  If you’ve always wanted to learn, or if you’re already writing, but want to elevate your skills, this course is for you!
