It was reported today that a Conservative campaign staffer sent an email to the president of the Canadian Arab Federation asking him if he knew of any "cultural groups" that wanted to participate in a photo-op wearing their "national folklore costumes". The photo-op was intended to reflect "all the multicultural groups that support Ted Opitz our local Conservative candidate and the Prime Minister." Unfortunately for Ted Opitz, the Canadian Arab Federation (which lost $1 million in funding from the Conservative government in 2009)'s president was not impressed with the staffer's attempt to gather Canadians to appear with Harper in "ethnic costume", and the email was released.

The Colour of Poverty Campaign was launched by the Colour of Justice Network in 2007. The purpose of the Colour of Poverty campaign is to “build community based capacity to address racialization, the growing racialization of poverty and the resulting increased levels of social exclusion and marginalization of racialized communities in Ontario.”

They have released a video that cleverly addresses the issue of political parties seeking out so-called "ethnic" votes during campaigns.

They say "Communities of Colour reject the tactics of certain politicians in their targeting of particular ethno-racial groups in pursuit of so-called "very ethnic votes" !?".
