Over the course of eight weeks, participants will learn basic building techniques such as pinching, coiling, soft slab building, hard slab building and press moulding. Students will also be able to try their hand at the potter’s wheel, and will learn the basics of using this tool to create their own pieces. Students will glaze their work and end with a collection of their own finished pieces. Previous students of a beginner class may wish to hone and develop their skills. Thrown and Altered
Instructor: Chris Snedden
Some previous experience with throwing on the potters wheel is a prerequisite. In this course, we will explore the possibilities of making forms that are not necessarily round. From simple alterations to the rim and body, radical adaptations from round to square, to complete abstractions of form, these transformations will add interest and variety to your work, and open up new possibilities for form and decoration. Come and have some fun exploring the world of "not round"! (March 25 to May 20, No class on April 22)
Sunday Afternoon, 1-4 pm
Handbuilding
Instructor: Rene Wortel
This class is for everyone—from the beginner to the advanced potter. Learn to make pottery with simple shapes and forms; develop techniques to simplify slab construction. Enjoy building tall, elegant and sometimes elaborate pots that will amaze you! Through the use of templates, you will learn to plan and create each piece. The final touch will be in the decoration and glazing. (March 28 to May 23, No class on April 25)
