New Canadians 2010
June 29 - July 10, 2010
Opening night reception Tuesday June 29, 7-9pm
While borders all over the world are solidifying and becoming less permeable, Canada still welcomes newcomers to our small slice of paradise, recognizing and celebrating their contributions to society.
Though we perceive ourselves and are perceived by other nations as a land of opportunity, a place where there is freedom, and understanding, and a community that uses the contributions of immigrants to enrich society, the challenges that they face are real, are difficult, and sometimes discouraging. In particular, artists can face barriers that didn't exist back home: differences in language and custom, differences in perception, and differences in what artists are expected to contribute to their community.
As we open our homes, our hearts and our communities to newcomers, we are all enriched. They bring tradition, music, food, art, and new points of view, and we are fortunate that so many people from all over the world choose to call Canada home.
Come to see the exhibition, now in its ninth year, and support these New Canadians.
