Inspired by the Egyptian people’s occupation of Tahrir Square and popular
occupations in Spain, Canadian activist magazine Adbusters sent out a call
to Occupy Wallstreet on September 17th. In response, hundreds of citizens descended on the financial district in New York to protest the corruption and inequality of the global economy. Soon the occupation involved thousands, and a month later it has spread to major cities across North America.
On October 22nd, Occupy London will join in solidarity with this
fast-growing movement by establishing a space of protest, education,
empowerment and community dialogue. We will be occupying Campbell Park starting at 1pm on Saturday the 22nd, and all are welcome to participate. We will be occupying the park again on Sunday, October 23rd at noon, to continue the conversation.
Similar to other manifestations of the movement, Occupy London has no
narrow or specifically defined message. We are inspired by the original
Wallstreet demonstration’s call for fairness, equity and the rediscovery
of true, participatory democracy.
Mindful of the continual dialogue coming out of the Occupy movements,
we recognize that this is indigenous land and therefore already occupied.
We will continue to learn through our experiences and dialogue with one another to build a strong, inclusive and participatory movement.
We are the 99%, and it’s time we decided for ourselves the kind of world we want.

Although there will be an assembly in Campbell park this Saturday at 1, there may not be an occupation there, on any day. At the assembly this Saturday afternoon we will be deciding whether or not there will be an occupation, and we will decide where to have it. Those points were discussed at the meeting last night (Monday).
