Workshop One: Legal Issues and Requirements Facing Arts Organizations 

Workshop Leader: Susan Fincher Stoll, Harrison Pensa 

Learn the facts about board responsibilities, understanding your by-laws and implementing them, signing authority, obligations as a registered non profit, and what is charitable status, and how to apply for it.

Susan Fincher Stoll, Harrison Penza

Susan's practice involves three primary areas. She advises charities and not-for-profit organizations on asset management, administration, governance and fundraising. She practises tax litigation and she represents corporations and individuals on income and sales tax matters. She practises estate planning, which involves will planning, trusts, powers of attorney, business succession planning and capacity issues under the Substitute Decisions Act.

London Tax Practitioners Consultation Group, Canadian Tax Foundation, Canadian Bar Association, London Tax Discussion Group, The Estate Planner’s Council of London. Additional Information: Susan is the Senior Instructor on Taxation Law for the Bar Admission Course and has taught Taxation of Trusts and Estate Planning at the University of Western Ontario, Faculty of Law. She is the Past President of the Estate Planners’ Council of London, and a former Director of Habitat for Humanity London Inc. 

Workshop Two: Financial Issues and Requirements Facing Arts Organizations

Workshop Leader: Nesreen Bahbah, TD Canada Trust

Understanding and following best financial practices for your organization. Topics include safe banking practices, determining signing authority, implementing financial safety measures, and what to do when a crisis arises.
