Professor Sliwinski will engage Towell in depth conversation about Scenes of Conflict, his exhibition of photographs from Afghanistan. They will discuss the challenges of working in conflict zones, the gap between photographic evidence and photographic meaning, and the difficulties of telling a story in pictures.
Towell became the first Canadian invited to join the Magnum photo agency in 1988, and has had picture essays published widely.
Sliwinski is Assistant Professor at UWO's Faculty of Information and Media Studies. She has just published a book called Human Rights in Camera investigating the visual dimension of human rights discourse.
