Car Free Day 2012: Details Announced with Downtown Event at Noon
Our Street London will be celebrating the return of Car Free Day in 2012 with a lunch hour launch party on Dundas Street. The celebration will feature a live performance on Tuesday April 3rd at noon by local indie blues band Lonnie in the Garden in the Library Terrace (see picture to the left) at London Central Library where the date for Car Fee Day 2012 will be revealed.
“We’re returning to the original idea of a single Car Free Day this year,” says Our Street Program Coordinator Ryan Craven. “We want to focus our resources on the environmental message with an event that is geared to families.”
Car Free Day 2012 will forego the big stages of last year’s Car Free Festvals to feature more intimate busker-style music, dance, and other entertainment. More environmentally friendly events in the spirit of Car Free Day include:
• A Bike Rodeo – in partnership the Optimist Club and the TREA Bicycle Festival
• Bicycle Decorating Parade
• Bicycle Photo Booth
• Bicycle Powered Smoothies
• Bicycle Polo
• Fitness Classes
• Salsa Competition
• Tree Giveaway from Reforest London
• Yoga Classes
Individuals and local groups interested in performing, creating an activity, volunteering, or getting involved in Car Free Day 2012 in any way are invited to visit www.ourstreet.ca for more information.
Our Street London would like to thank Car Free Day Sponsors – Downtown London, the City of London, and London Community Foundation; and Car Free Day Partners – London Public Library, Middlesex-London Health Unit, Thames Region Ecological Association, and the Urban League of London.
