Before Batty’s Bath, Jamie Sabot was taking care of her own skin needs by making handmade soaps for herself, and her now-husband’s, sensitive skin. But in 2009 her part-time hobby became a full-time business and Batty’s Bath was born!
For the past two years Jamie has been whipping up sudsy goodness and has developed quite a following for her handmade, eco-friendly goods.
I became of fan of Jamie’s about a year ago and I now have a few Batty’s staples I cannot live without (Batty’s day moisturizer and primer and face scrub). It also makes me happy to know that by purchasing Batty’s Bath I am supporting a local talented lady, who has rad hair (I think this month her hair is turquoise… tres awesome).
Batty’s bath carries everything from face moisturizer, lip balm, deodorant and now dog shampoo! She seems to be constantly rolling out new products, but she notes that it isn’t that hard to come up with new products to tackle. “Basically anything I’ve needed or my friends and family have needed when looking to switch from commercial products to handmade ones. This way we all know what goes into them and we don’t have to be worried about the manufacturer adding chemicals and ingredients that aren’t good for us or our skin,” Jamie explains.
When at The Met I find it hard not to stick my nose in everything at the Batty table (I'm a smeller, what can I say?). She has soaps and shampoos that smell like butter cream icing, bubble gum and Pina Colada. They literally smell good enough to eat. “Luckily they are made with ingredients you COULD eat, although I don’t think there’s a whole lot of nutritional value in them,” Jamie jokes. “I wouldn’t want anyone burping bubbles!”
Jamie has rolled out some deliciously scented products for the holiday season. They include gingerbread soap and perfume, winter vanilla cold pressed soaps and peppermint snowflake soaps. But her two favourite seasonal offerings are her holiday body butter gift sets and her brand new kissletoe lip gloss (I'm all about this - I love punny titles like it's no ones business). I find that her holiday selection makes for great stocking stuffers, or put a few together for an indulgent gift pack!
Jamie is also using her soapy talents to spread awareness and help local charities. When you purchase one of her limited edition soaps you will be supporting A.R.F Ontario and Cedar Row Farm. Click here for more information on how you can support these worthwhile charities.
Another great thing about Batty’s Bath is that you can order online and instead of paying the shipping fee you can simply opt to pick up your order at The Met on the weekends leading up to Christmas.
Batty's Bath is at The Met up until the weekend of December 17 and 18. The lovely Kristen (pictured with Jamie above) is maning the booth. Stop and say hello and pick up some bubbly goods!
Reminder: There will be gift wrapping at The Met leading up until Christmas. After you pick up that perfect gift from Batty's Bath or another equally savvy cool vendor you can get that baby wrapped up for a small donation of $2 or bring a non-perishable food item for the Food Bank.
