So it's Christmas, I'm sure there is a pile of wrapping paper on the living room floor and everyone is still wearing their pyjamas. If there are little ones in your family, they are most likely playing with new treasures or your brother is desperately trying to set up the flashy new truck while an anxious tot is grabbing his leg. While you sit in the corner and ask if the build up was worth it. As the carnage of Christmas fills the house, you start to panic about the credit card bills and going back to work on Monday. Now, on the other hand, there is this magical feeling about Christmas and the joy of giving gifts and holiday cheer.
But here is my thought: everyday should be gift. (I must also make it clear I mean this in a very non - religious way.) Put the material things aside and appreciate your family today, not because they bought you a new pots and pan set, but because you get to walk up and hug them. As families grow and move over time, those hugs won't be as accessible. If nothing else, Christmas helps me recognize the brilliance of Dr Suess, a good cook, snow and family. Enjoy your holiday, wherever you are.
