Recently I stumbled upon turntable.fm, a new site that is essentially like passing around the iPod at a house party, only it's online.
When you get an account, you get an avatar, and the ability to join or create a room. Once you're in a room with a few people, you each take turns playing a track. People can vote your choices up or down, and you get some kind of score. Points get you cooler avatars, and it's kinda fun.
Here's a screenshot of a sample room I'm chillin' in right now:
I like the idea because it's about listening to music together and being part of the musical collective. It's a great way to feel out a new style of music you're not familiar with, and you don't have to worry about your buddy spilling some PBR on your shoes while you're picking the song.
That said, as is always the case with the internet, doing it in person is always more fun.
