Harrison Pensa, along with several other community partners including the LEDC (London Economic Development Corporation), is putting out a call to local artists to submit their ideas for a mural which will be hung in the London VIA Rail Station. The chosen artist will be tasked with crafting the image for the mural.

The large (9 by 14 foot) ad real estate on the north east wall of the waiting area will showcase the work of a local artist to be commissioned by Harrison Pensa and its partners. As soon as VIA Rail patrons get off the train this is the single largest flat viewable surface they see. VIA Rail boasts that 434,331 people pass through the waiting area annually.

This is defintely a great opportunity for an artist to get their work known quickly and to communicate something interesting about London to many of city's newcomers and visitors. Here's a bit of what the group of partners have to say about the project.

Our group recognizes that the train station is a liminal space in a traveler’s journey. We want to use the mural to create an impression of our city as they move to their destination: London. More than this, we want the image to capture attention and convey the energy and excitement of our city.

Curatorial notes beside the mural will include a brief “Welcome to London” message and contain a QR code that will drive visitors to a custom landing page for mobile devices which will connect travelers to key sites while providing gift certificates and other promotions. The mural will be hung for the duration of the contract (approximately 3 years) and the electronic campaign associated it will ebb and flow over that time. Following our contract with VIA Rail, the Partners will donate the mural to a local charity or institution.

For more information about the project and how to submit your idea download the official document here or contact Kadie Ward from the LEDC. The deadline for submissions is December 5th, 4pm.
