Grammy Award singer Pink has been known to push the boundaries before, her full version video for ‘Fuckin’ Perfect ‘has surfaced online and I’m sure it will ruffle a few feathers -- WARNING: it starts with a couple having rather dejected looking sex -- there’s no nudity, but it’s worth noting if you’re watching at work/school.  As this is Pink, you won’t be surprised to learn that the video also features parent/teen misery, self-harming, playground bullying and so on.

To me this video is yet another example of why Pink has managed to remain a steady authority in the industry for over a decade. The video brings about a message that relates to the song and it doesn’t seem manufactured in the least. Well done! It’s another self-acceptance teen thing that have been so popular lately like “Fireworks”, but since Pink has more balls than somebody like Katy Perry, the video has a rawer edge.

The video tells the chronicle of a “rebel” girl who is bullied and steals from a shop before channelling her anger into becoming a successful artist. The uncensored version of the music video also opens with a sex scene and features the girl slashing her wrists in a bath.

The video is an emotional ride...Cutting, suicide, and two very diverse symptoms of a similar problem, (alienation and depression). Personally, I don’t think there is a single person who doesn’t know at least two people who deal or have been victims of this personally.   After watching the video a few times, it made me think of how a lot of celebs show off “scars” on a red carpet show somewhere and then head back to their normal life, which in most cases includes some form of rehab. This is a problem -- they need to talk about it. But many don’t!

It’s evident that some like to ignore the problem, and those same people will ignore this video, but it’s time for change and realize that won’t make these problems go away.

I’m sure some people will be irate over this video, saying Pink is supporting or encouraging suicide or cutting.  But I view it differently.  This video shows that Pink supports youth out there that feel distressed/helpless/immobilized, that feel alone and useless... To me she’s leading by example, telling young people she’s aware that these are enormous issues in today’s society and that she may even have firsthand experience with in dealing with similar experiences.

What did you think of the video? Does it speak to self-harm, bullying, body image in an effective way?  Leave your comment below.
