Local infotech company rtraction has opened up the city of London's food inspection data on a (beta) site called http://www.eatsure.ca. The London-Middlesex Health Unit made their inspection results public in February but the site is less than user-friendly. While it's easy to find specific restaurants and view their inspection results, when you click on the 'map' link you are sent to *gasp* mapquest (I thought the site had gone the way of the dodo).
It's not efficient to have to click on multiple links while scoping out a good place to eat, and eatsure solves this problem by pulling the data from the health unit website and plotting all of it into google maps, allowing users to find their local eateries and view the inspection results on the same page.
I look forward to the improvements I have no doubt rtraction will make to the site and think food is an excellent way for Londoners to get a taste of open data and how it can make life easier and better.
