Rob Gordon (and Bill Murray Radio):
“A good compilation tape, like breaking up, is hard to do and takes ages longer than it might seem. You gotta kick off with a killer, to hold the attention(‘Devil’s Rope Revisited’). Then you have to take it up a notch (‘Love 2 U’), but not blow your wad, so maybe cool it off a notch (the guitar signals the demolition, a chance to catch your breath, and then yet another ace Philly rhythm section (Lantern's Emily and Sophie) walk it out, (Here comes the Axe) and (Lantern’s) Zachary Fairbrother starts firing rounds and (and here comes the Smasher; Dirty Beaches’) Alex Zhang Hungtai begins to Run Through the jungle, a survivor, a surveyor, he's bloodthirsty, and he wants to be king - ‘I Want the World’).
And you can't put the same artist twice on the tape, except if there's some subtle point or lesson or theme involved (see Bill Murray Halloween Ball, MONDAY OCTOBER 31ST, At THE BLACK SHIRE PUB, Five dollars, Doors Open at 8pm and NEW ZEBRA KID starts at 8:30pm, and the Kid is Hot Tonight) and even then not the two of them in a row (to the King of All Indie Rock we say different approaches to different tapes and in this case We're thinking more along the lines of Eno's 'No New York' compilation. So we load up the top with headliner Lantern.
We dip into the Zachary Fairbrother back catalogue with II by Omon Ra II 'Jimmy Melvin' and 'America is My Zoo'. If yr in yr car - get to the open road and hit the gas!), and you can't woo somebody with Joni Mitchell's "Big Yellow Taxi" (substitute the sleepy eyed cotton candy clouds of New Zebra Kid ‘Sunset House’) and then bash their head off with something like GBH's "City Baby Attacked by Rats," (danger lurks and Doom Tickler's howl of terror ‘Parabolic/Umbilic’ has us Dancing in the Dark) and... oh, there are a lot of rules. Anyway,I worked hard at this one (and it’s got a lot of our favourite music we're listening to today and tomorrow (I’m looking at you Itsagamble! and yr dirty sweet ‘Fox’. And Man Made Hill (everything on this new Inter/Master 1 lp – though I’ve trimmed it to the catchiest) and definitely what I'm listening to Halloween Monday night, October 31st.)

Post script –
Q: So how did you come across Man Made Hill? I n'er 'erd of 'em before.
A: Man Made Hill emerged from obscurity and stole the show at Wyrd Montreal in July. The show was later stolen back by Lantern. Maybe. Anyway, we're pleased as punch to have the 2 best bands from WYRD Montreal (WYRD MTL being this incredible one night Summer fest featuring some of the truly elite breaking acts from across the country – see also Dirty Beaches)
Q: And Doom Tickler?
A: Saw her tear apart Castle Drum earlier in the year. Note: never miss 'Hands' shows at Castle Drum. Also, Leslie aka Doom Tickler is the modern definition er 2011 definition of cool. You'll read all about her in well designed fashionable, expensive New York magazines, and on Pitchfork, in years to come.
Q: Itsagamble!?
A: The King of the House Party...he likes it in close. 'Good Vibrations' is a way of life. If you bring yourself to the music your head and your feet will thank you!
Post Post Script -
New Zebra Kid ‘Rayearth’.
Press play.
Shooting Horses, and Boys dead. And Breaking Hearts. This fucking song makes me wanna break it on down and cry. And tell my buddy Aaron ‘We always miss ya buddy’.
Gotta gotta gotta ‘Get Out of My Mind’.
